One of the first questions campground owners and resort operators ask when considering glamping structures is about the canvas. Will it hold up in bad weather? Will it let in noise? Will it be comfortable in extreme heat or cold? These are the right questions to ask, and they are exactly what PlainsCraft built the BonnetgardTM Cover System to answer.
What the Bonnetgard Cover System Does
The Bonnetgard system is a five-layer canvas solution designed specifically for the demands of outdoor hospitality. Each layer serves a distinct purpose, and together they create a structure that is weather-resistant, thermally efficient, and quiet enough for a comfortable night’s sleep.
Layer 1: Aqualon Edge Exterior Canvas
The outermost layer is made from Aqualon Edge material, a commercial-grade fabric built to resist UV exposure, mold, mildew, and abrasion. It includes a heat gain reduction technology that helps regulate interior temperatures on hot days. It also comes with a manufacturer’s warranty, giving operators added peace of mind.
Layer 2: Intentional Air Flow
This “invisible layer” is what helps the system breathe. The intentional air gap creates the airflow needed for the radiant barrier to perform properly, while helping moisture escape so the system stays dry, durable, and protected against mold and mildew.
Layer 3 & 4: Acoustic and Thermal Insulation with Radiant Barrier
Inside the exterior canvas, two additional layers work together. An acoustic and thermal insulation barrier blocks both sound and cold from entering the interior. A radiant barrier then reduces heat gain from the outside, keeping the wagon cooler in summer without relying solely on mechanical cooling.
Layer 5: Sunforger Interior Canvas
The innermost layer is Sunforger canvas, a fire-retardant duck cloth treated with a non-toxic water-based process that makes it water-repellent, mildew-resistant, and durable. Sunforger is commonly used in high-performance shelter applications, and it provides a clean, finished interior appearance.
What This Means for Your Guests
A wagon built with the Bonnetgard system is designed for comfort in temperatures ranging from 10°F to 110°F. When paired with our Mitsubishi Mini-Split HVAC system or optional heat pump, it can support year-round use in most North American climates.
The acoustic insulation also enhances the guest experience by softening unwanted exterior noise while preserving the natural ambiance guests come for, such as wind, water, birds, and the subtle sounds of the outdoors. The result is a stay that feels connected to nature, but still calm, comfortable, and protected.
