The wagons are built very solid and sturdy and are heavy enough to withstand most weather. We highly recommend that the wagons are secured to the ground via cable. The inner canvas is treated for water resistance and to be fire retardant. In normal use, the wagons remain dry.
During the initial design process and in all ongoing development, we consider safety of utmost importance. To assure as much security as possible, we have gone so far as to equip the wagon with a lockable solid wood door. All electrical work is certified by a licensed electrician. The stairway and porch areas are equipped with sturdy railings.
The wagon, being made from wood and fabric, requires some minimal maintenance to assure the wagon delivers many years of service. The wheels should be treated annually to assure ongoing beauty, however they will last for many years without treatment. The exterior and interior wood is treated with three coats of preservative stain and can be refreshed as desired to keep it looking new and beautiful. One can also let it weather for a more rustic look. Even without additional stain treatment, the wood will last for decades.
Yes. We have a line of furniture and accessories to choose from if you’re interested. We also offer standard packages that can be found here. We also provide interior design service to our clients.
We use the very best exterior fabric available. The outer cover is made of Aqualon Edge, which is a super strong weather proof fabric with welded seams and hems. If the cover is kept reasonably clean, kept tight to avoid excessive flapping from the wind the cover should last at least 7 to 10 years.
The wagons can be towed with a vehicle, tractor, or other utility unit. They are designed to be tow-able on a periodic basis and at slow speed on private property, but they are not road legal. The wagons can be loaded on a suitable trailer for transport on public roads or highways. The wagons are also designed for stationary use only. They should not be towed with people on board.
We offer an optional heat pump heat and air system. Together with our proprietary insulated cover and wall system, the wagons are comfortable from approximately 10 degrees F to 110 degrees F. Windy conditions can affect the ability of the heat pump to maintain those temperatures.
There is an optional Wi-Fi enabled thermostat available.
Absolutely. We are very proud of our wagons and take the utmost care to assure a very high-quality product. We do offer a one-year limited warranty on certain materials and workmanship. Appliances are warranted by the manufacture to the original purchaser.
Yes, we can and we do, however at the current time, shipping is limited to land routes.
Our standard wagon is 27 feet long by 10 1/2 feet wide. The stairs ad an additional four feet in length.
Yes, the wagon inner canvas is flame retardant and is made of Sunforger canvas.
Sunforger canvas is duck cloth dipped in a non-toxic water based chemical bath. Sunforger™ is a wax based, non-toxic chemical that enhances the properties of cotton canvas. After the army duck canvas goes through the Sunforger™ process, it is pre-shrunk, water repellent, durable, mildew resistant, and flame retardant. Sunforger canvas is quite often referred to as “shelter duck,” as this is a consistent final use and function of this highly durable material. Sunforger canvas is known for its medium weight and also for its multipurpose functionality, attributable to the very tight, plied yarn weave construction.
All utilities are attached to the front underneath part of the wagon. The front is opposite the end with the stairs. If your wagon is equipped with the optional bathroom both a water and sewer connection is required. The sewer will be connected to a 3 inch female pvc connection and the water to a 1/2 pex line.
Our flagship wagons are supplied with a short 50amp 220 volt RV type plug. Our Pony Wagons are supplied with a short 30amp 110 volt RV type plug.
After manufacturing, furniture and fixtures are loaded into the wagon, each wagon is then carefully shrink wrapped with heavy white plastic shrink wrap.
The wagons are not titled and are treated much like a piece of equipment for both finance and tax purposes. Each wagon has a serial number and a serial number tag, which is used by the bank for identification. Yes, customers have used the wagons as collateral for a loan. Some have financed the wagons alone and some have wrapped the wagons into a project loan while building, expanding, or upgrading a park or resort.
It is the trucking company’s responsibility to get the load to its destination unharmed, but the responsibility and liability of unloading is yours. Give us a call and we can walk you through this process step-by-step.
The wagons can be unloaded by a local towing/wrecker company that has a flatbed tow truck. The truck must have at least a 22-foot bed.
It is the responsibility of the buyer to unload the wagons from the semi trailer. There a couple satisfactory methods for doing so. Please contact a PlainsCraft Sales or Customer Service Rep for additional instruction.
Yes, solar and battery system can be installed to run the lights. A composting toilet can also be used or a black water tank that can be pumped. Potable water can be stored and pumped, then have a tank for grey water. It’s set up like an RV Trailer. (Off gird solutions may require equipment or infrastructure not supplied by PlainsCraft. Contact us for details.)

Outhouse FAQs
Yes. PlainsCraft Outhouse units are delivered turnkey and ready for placement. You will need to have a forklift available at delivery to unload the unit from the trailer and move it to its final location for utility hookup.
The Outhouse is designed with a 3″ PVC sewer connection, allowing flexibility for connection to existing waste systems. Depending on your property setup, this may include city sewer, septic, waste tanks, honey wagons, or modular black tank systems.
Our Outhouse units are built with common code considerations in mind; however, local requirements can vary by location. We recommend checking with your local code inspector before installation. If you have specific code requirements or questions, send them to [email protected] and our team will be happy to review how our units align with your needs.
Yes. The Outhouse is semi-modular and comes standard with a custom steel base that includes built-in forklift slots. It can be moved after installation, provided the new location has the same or similar utility infrastructure available, including electric, water, and sewer connections.
